SEM is known as Search Engine Marketing and is a form of Internet marketing that involves the promotion of websites by increasing their visibility in search engine results pages through optimization and advertising. SEM may use search engine optimization (SEO), which adjusts or rewrites website content to achieve a higher ranking in search engine results pages, or use pay per click listings. It varies from SEO which is strictly focused on search engine optimization where there is no paid advertizing. In SEM money is typically the main contributor to marketing a website. That is when the term PPC comes into play (Pay-Per-Click) when doing SEM (advising your product online through search engines) you are only charged when your advertisement is clicked on hence, PPC (Pay-Per-Click).
